Frequently asked questions
What kind of photo does this tool work on?
This tool only works well on photos that already have a fairly even, solid background. Complex backgrounds, busy patterns and fine hair detail are NOT in scope for this tool — precise cutout of hair and complex scenes needs the separate AI background remover, which is a different tool.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Your file is read in your browser only and is never uploaded to a server.
How do I sample the background colour?
Click on an area of the existing background in the preview, or use a corner sample button. The clicked pixel colour becomes the sampled colour.
What do tolerance and feather do?
Tolerance is how close a pixel colour must be to the sampled colour (RGB distance) to be replaced. Raise it if background survives; lower it if the subject starts disappearing. Feather softens the boundary so edges are not hard and jagged.
Which new background colour should I choose for an ID photo?
Check the issuing authority's required colour before you submit. Final acceptance is the issuing authority's, not this tool's.
Does this tool cut out hair or use AI?
No. This is simple colour-distance replacement, not AI cutout and not hair segmentation. For complex backgrounds, use a separate tool for complex backgrounds.
Should I download JPG or PNG?
JPG is smaller and accepted for most online uploads. PNG is larger and lossless. Both downloads here have a solid background, not transparency.
