PSD Viewer

Last updated: October 2026

Open a PSD file to see its layers, check their sizes and visibility, preview the flattened image, and download that preview as PNG. This tool is read-only: it cannot edit layers or save back to PSD.

Choose a .psd file. Files over 15 MB show a slowness warning and still continue; files over 20 MB are rejected.

Choose a PSD file to begin.

Steps

  1. Choose a .psd file — it is read locally in your browser and is never uploaded.
  2. Wait while the parser loads (only on the first PSD file) and the file is parsed.
  3. Read the document size, colour mode and bit depth, and the layer list with visibility, position, size and opacity.
  4. Check the flattened preview. If it looks wrong for your file, try “Compose preview from visible layers”.
  5. Download the preview as PNG when you are happy with it.

Compatibility — what was actually tested

The table below lists only files that were generated and checked in this environment. No file created in Photoshop was available here, so no editor-version coverage is claimed.

File typeResult
PSD with pixel layers (RGB, 8-bit, 120 × 80, generated with ag-psd)Pass — layer list, stored composite and composed preview checked pixel by pixel in a headless browser.
PSD with a group containing two layersPass — group and its children listed indented, and group children drawn in the composed preview.
PSD with a hidden layerPass — listed as Hidden and excluded from the composed preview (checked pixel by pixel).
PSD with a text layerListed only — the layer and its text were listed, but the generated file carries no pixel data for the text layer, so text rendering in a preview was not verified.
Stored composite imagePass for a file with a document canvas — the stored composite matched the document pixels. A generated file without a document canvas produced a blank stored composite; that is a property of the generated file, not a parser failure, and the layer-composed preview is the fallback for such files.
Adjustment layers, smart objects, effects, CMYK, 16/32-bit, PSBNot tested.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PSD file uploaded?

No. It is read in your browser only and is never uploaded to a server.

Can I edit layers or save back to PSD?

No. This tool is read-only: it lists layers and exports a flattened PNG. It cannot edit layers, and it cannot save back to PSD.

Which PSD parser does this page use?

ag-psd 31.0.3 (MIT, verified from its jsDelivr package.json). Its browser bundle (830,279 bytes) is loaded lazily only when you choose a PSD file, so the first page load stays small. An earlier plan to use psd.js was dropped: its published package.json lists its license as UNLICENSED and its default browser bundle is not in the published files.

Will the preview look exactly like the original?

Not always. The stored composite saved in the file is shown first; unsupported layer types, effects and blend modes may render differently from the original application. The “Compose preview from visible layers” button builds a second preview from the visible layers only.

What if my file cannot be parsed?

You will see a specific error message (not a PSD, unsupported version, unsupported colour mode, or a parse failure) instead of a blank page. Files over 20 MB are rejected before parsing.
