Online Stopwatch

A precise online stopwatch with lap times, right in your browser — no app, no download.

This online stopwatch measures elapsed time to a tenth of a second and runs entirely in your browser. Press Start and the display updates continuously; press Lap to record a split without stopping the clock, and each lap row shows both the lap time and the running total, newest first. Stop pauses the clock so you can resume where you left off, and Reset clears everything back to zero.

Because the stopwatch computes time from your device's high-resolution clock instead of counting screen frames, it stays accurate even if the tab briefly loses focus. It is the same tool whether you are timing a sprint, a swim set, a coffee extraction, a typing test, a classroom activity or a rubik's cube solve — if it has a start and a finish, the stopwatch handles it.

How to use the stopwatch

  1. Press Start to begin timing. The display shows minutes, seconds and tenths.
  2. Press Lap while the clock runs to record a split; the lap appears in the table with its own lap time and the total.
  3. Press Stop to pause. Press Resume to continue from the same time.
  4. Press Reset to clear the clock and all laps back to zero.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this stopwatch?

It reads your device's high-resolution clock and displays to a tenth of a second, updating many times per second. That is more than accurate enough for training, cooking and everyday timing. It is not a certified instrument for official competition results.

What is the difference between lap time and total?

The total is the time since you first pressed Start. A lap time is the time since the previous lap (or since the start, for lap 1). The table shows both so you can compare individual segments and the overall elapsed time.

Does it keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes — the elapsed time is derived from the clock, not from how often the screen redraws. The numbers may update less smoothly in a background tab, but the measured time stays correct, and the display catches up the moment you return.

Is there a limit to how long it can run?

Practically, no. The display adds an hours figure once you pass one hour, and it will keep counting for as long as the browser tab stays open.
